Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir valley, Saturday, against plans to abrogate Article 35A of Indian Constitution, reports said.
Call for the strike has been given by the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and supported by traders.
It is also aimed at condemning the continued killing of Kashmiris at the hands of government forces and the arrest of Hurriyat leaders by Delhi-based National Investigation Agency (NAI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED).
All shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed while traffic is off the road.
The authorities have deployed troops and police personnel in strength across the Kashmir Valley to prevent people from staging anti-India demonstration.
According to reports a complete shutdown is also being observed in Chenab Valley to protest against a plea in the Supreme Court seeking abrogation of Article 35-A of the constitution.
