Appeals people to protest after Friday prayers
SRINAGAR: Joint resistance leadership – Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik – have strongly condemned the killing of a 16-year-old student, Mohammad Younus at Gulabagh in Tral area of Puwlama.
The youth was killed when government forces fired a pellet gun on him during clashes where youth threw rocks at troopers.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the leadership said that forces were on a “terror spree in south Kashmir” every day. “Under the garb of CASO, youth are being brutally killed and a huge population placed under siege, people harassed, property damaged and even women and children terrorised.”
The leaders said it seemed government and its forces – police, army, and CRPF – had “declared war against the people of South Kashmir” as there was no end to “atrocities inflicted on people”. They said that arrests, torture, raids and frequent siege were the usual means of atrocities in the villages across south Kashmir.
After Friday prayers on August 11, people will stage peaceful protest against the “forces highhandedness and new wave of terror unleashed on the people of South Kashmir”, the statement said.
The leaders urged Imams of all the masjids across Kashmir to raise their voice against the “unabated atrocities being committed by the forces in South Kashmir” during Friday sermons and to condemn forces’ brutalities in unison to express solidarity with the people of south Kashmir.
In the statement, the leaders urged the people of Kashmir to make the strike call given for Saturday (August 12) a success stating that the call is against the assault on the J&K’s special status and continuous killings of Kashmiris at the hands of Indian forces.
The leadership also paid rich tributes to Shaheed-e-Azmat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, on his 9th martyrdom anniversary, stating that he sacrificed his life for a great cause and always remained committed to the freedom movement. They said best way to pay tributes to Aziz will be that the entire nation remains steadfast towards the mission for which leaders like Shaheed-e-Azmat and thousands of other martyrs laid down their lives.
