SRINAGAR: The Bar Association has strongly condemned the “barbaric” killing of a civilian, Mohammad Younis Sheikh of Saimo Tral by “ruthless forces” who fired hundreds of pellets in his chest at Nowdal Tral.
“Though, Mohammad Younis, was immediately shifted to nearby hospital, wherefrom he was referred to SMHS Hospital, but the doctors on arrival, declared him dead,” the statement said.
The Bar Association also condemns the arrest of Zahid Ali Lone, advocate, who had gone to offer his condolence to the family members of a youth belonging to Damhal Hanjipora area of Kulgam, who had been killed by the forces a day before. “Though by going to the residence of the youth he had not committed any crime, yet, he was arrested on his way back and lodged in Police Station Damhal Hanjipora and a fictitious case registered against him under section 13 of UL (P) Act, to make his release impossible,” the statement said.
The Bar Association also condemned the “maltreatment meted to the pro-freedom activists in police stations, interrogation centres and also in jails” within and outside Jammu and Kashmir. “The Bar Association has credible information that the police personnel after arresting the innocent people are torturing them in police stations and interrogation centres to such an extent that they are forced to accept to what they have not committed and on the basis of such a statement made under duress, they are booked in false and frivolous cases and are also got detained under PSA and lodged in jails, far away from their place of residence.”
