Park named after Lalla Arifa in Pampore turned into a garbage dump
PAMPORE: A public park named after Lalla Arifa at Lall Trag in Pampore has become an abode of dogs and miscreants, besides being turned into a garbage dump, and a an abode for stray dogs.
“The park though constructed for recreation has become a nuisance for the public because of stray dogs,” said Ghulam Mohammad a local resident.
Spread over 10 kanals, in the vicinity of a famous shrine, the park has been left unattended by Municipal committee Pampore after 2014 floods.
Residents also complained that the park has become an abode of the unscrupulous elements.
They said that a building which was to become a public library in the park has become a safe haven for drug addicts.
“The place has now become a hub of drug addicts. The anti-social elements find the place safe for their activities,” a local resident said.
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Pampore Mohammad Ismail told Kashmir Reader that the 2014 floods devastated the park and then some miscreants looted the fixtures from the park enclave.
“The iron grill and fittings of the fountain have been stolen,” he said.
He, however, said that he had recently joined, and has put the restoration of park in my priorities.
