Srinagar: The government forces claimed to have arrested three over ground workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba in Shopian.
Acting on a tip off, a joint naka of police and 62 Rashtriya Rifles was established near Nagbal jurisdiction of Zainapora, a police handout said. During Naka, three OGWs of LeT identified as Showkat Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Kabir Mir resident of Chitragam, Waseem Ahmad Sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi resident of Chitragam Kalan and Junaid Ali Bhat son Ali Mohammad Bhat resident of Sugoo Hindhama were apprehended and three hand grenades were recovered from their possession.
It said during questioning, the OGWs admitted that they were working at behest of “LeT operative Wasim Shah and were tasked to lob grenades on police establishments, cause death/injuries to police personnel and snatch weapons in Shopian”. “The OGWs had also carried out observation of some Police guards to perpetrate terrorist attacks,” it said and added police has registered a case in this regard and investigation has been started.
