Srinagar: Two residential houses were gutted in fire while as one more was partially damaged at Sunarkul area of Safa Kadal Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses said fire – the cause of which is believed to be a short circuit – emanated from the house of Ghulam Mohiuddin Zargar at around 4 p.m. and spread to neighboring houses. The damage is believed to be in lakhs.
Residents of the neighborhood told Kashmir Reader that the intensity of fire was so high that some seven fire tenders were brought in to douse the fire. “The firemen struggled for several hours to douse the fire as the house had lots of timber used in it that caught fire very fast,” said an eyewitness.
Around two dozen of firefighters were on job to control the fire and succeeded only after three hours of tiresome efforts.
