Sopore: Danish Showkat Dar, 19, popularly known as Danish Mantoo in Sopore town, was among the three militants killed in the encounter at Amargarh in Sopore early Saturday morning.
The third slain LeT militant, Danish Showkat Dar, son of Showkat Ahmed Dar, a resident of Batpora Mohalla in Sopore, was the last one to be identified by the police authorities of Sopore police district.
Danish belonged to an impoverished family at Mohalla, Mumkak of Sopore town. He left his studies in the 11th standard and was an occasional worker at a wood-cutting machine.
A friend of his, who doesn’t want to be identified, told Kashmir Reader that Danish has been arrested a couple of times in stone-pelting cases and was termed by the police as a wanted stone-pelter of the area.
Earlier this year, Danish was taken into custody on February 21 in New Delhi along with two friends. He was later shifted to the Central Jail in Kashmir, from where he gave the authorities the slip and managed to escape, after which he joined the militant ranks. Danish has three siblings, two sisters and a brother.
