Budgam: Housed in a multi-storey building, the sub-district hospital in Beerwah area of central district Budgam is being run to the utter dissatisfaction of the local population.
“How could we expect a better healthcare when a neonatal is kept on a bed surrounded by with the dustbins lying aside,” asks Tasleema, a local woman.
“I have been here since last three days. I am fed up with the hospital administration. No one cares, and no one visits us to ask about the health conditions. I sometimes consider that I am in a sub-center rather than a sub district hospital,” she added.
Interestingly, the constituency where the hospital is situated is represented by former chief minister Omar Abdullah. The locals said that Omar Abdullah claimed to change the face of this constituency but the state of sub-district hospital belies his claims.
“Omar Abdullah has neither paid any interest in streamlining the hospital administration nor did he bother to supervise the infrastructure development of our health institute other than providing few ambulances from his own Constituency Development Fund (CDF). These ambulances are also used for ferrying the staff or facilitating choicest patients,” they said. Chief Medical Officer Budgam G M Dar told Kashmir Reader that he would inquire about the actual state of affairs at Beerwah hospital. Despite repeated attempts MLA Beerwah could not be reached for comments.
