SMC officials under vigilance net

Srinagar: The Vigilance Organisation has booked three officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allowing an illegal construction in Karan Nagar, and for allowing commercial activity in residential area. The beneficiaries have also been booked under, while the Vigilance raided the residential of officials and seized financial instruments from their possession.
In a statement issued here, the Vigilance Organisation said that a joint surprise check conducted revealed that the Chief Enforcement Officer SMC, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Enforcement Officer, Mujeeb Hussain Sheikh, Ward Officer 22 Karan Nagar Srinagar, Ab. Rashid Bhat then Building Inspector SMC have by abuse of their official position and in connivance with the beneficiaries (Mohammad Yasin Beigh, Mohammad Sadiq Beigh, Najam-ud-din Beigh and Showkat Ahmad Beigh S’s/o Mohammad Amin Beigh R/o Karan Nagar and Khalida Begum W/o Sona-Ullah Thakur R/o Karan Nagar) allowed raising of illegal structures without having requisite building permission from the competent authority, and also allowed the violation of land use by way of allowing commercial activity in residential area in gross violation to BOCA rules and regulations.

After a search warrant was obtained, searches were carried at the residential houses of the accused persons during which documents pertaining to bank deposits, FDR’s, Insurance policies, sale deeds of land, and other revenue documents were recovered and seized.
