Baramulla: The Gulmarg gondola resumed operations at the tourist resort on Thursday morning after 39 days of suspension.
Operations of the cable car service had been suspended after an accident caused by a tree fall on the cable, causing death of seven tourists.
Officials said the service was resumed in the presence of secretary tourism Mohammad Hussain Malik and Vice chairman cable car corporation Mohammad Bari Andrabi.
Officials added that Tourism department has tied all the giant trees along the Gondola pathway by a steel wire to decrease the chances of accidents during winds.
Tourists and traders at the resort were jubiliant at the resumption of the Gondola service.
Gayas Ahmad, a hotelier at Kangdori, said that their hotel opened after a month as there was no movement of people in Afferwat and Kangdori since the suspension of Gondola services.
The cable car corporation, as well as local traders and hoteliers and lost more them Rs 5 crore in revenue during the suspension period, officials said.
