Srinagar: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted at many places in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Friday.
The clashes followed the funeral prayers of slain Hizbul Mujahideen militant Yawar Nissar.
Only ten days old militant Yawar was killed at the hands of forces at Kanelwan, Bijbehara last night during an operation launched by police, 3 RR and CRPF 40/90 Bn, police said.
A large number of people participated in the funeral prayers of Yawar who was a resident of Shirpora area of the town.
Soon after the funeral prayers angry protesters pelted stones and rocks on forces deployed in heavy numbers who retaliated by firing tear smoke shells, local sources said.
A civilian identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, son of Mohammad Yousuf, resident of Arwini was also killed in force’s action at Herpora Kanelwan Karvel.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Anantnag town and its peripheries against the latest killings.
All shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed and public transport is off the roads.
