Botingoo, Sopore: A populous village on the banks of Wullar village in Sopore belt is boastful of a local initiative-Behbood committee—dedicated for the uplift of the forlorn village. The largest village of Zaingeer area, around 15 kilometers from the main town comprises a population of around 12,000 souls.
The committee was established twenty years ago comprising 12 volunteer members from all mohallas.
“Our village was being neglected. After the renewed efforts by the committee members, the village is limping towards development,” Haji Nisar Ahmad Ganai, head of the Behbood Committee told Kashmir Reader.
Mohd Khaleel Kava, 55, a member of the initiative said the committee has been formed for the welfare of the people of our village. “It is a voluntary effort. We spend our precious time and money for going to corners to help mitigate villagers’ problems,” he said.
Advocate Bashir Ahmad, another member said the committee was exclusively framed for the welfare of the people of Botengoo village. “In the past, we were successful in getting many facilities to our village but there are much more required and we are working on it,” he said.
