Srinagar: Weekly congregational Friday prayers were again not allowed in the historic jamia masjid Srinagar for sixth consecutive week, local sources said.
A large contingent of police and forces early today cordoned the whole area and closed the gates of jamia masjid, local sources said. Forces also sealed all roads leading to the worship place.
Strict restrictions were imposed in parts of the old town areas of the city to prevent people from assembling at the mosque. Locals said that police vans early today announced imposition of curfew in the area.
Pertinently, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continuously remained under house detention.
Resistance leadership had called for protests after prayers against the ruling of a military court in Machhil fake encounter case and arrests at the hands of NIA.
