‘Provide power supply or face protests’
Pampore: Factory owners at State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO), Phase-II Food Park Khonmoh Thursday warned government for indefinite strike and surrendering keys to SIDCO authorities if power curtailments at Phase II Food Park were not addressed, factory owners told Kashmir Reader.
The unit holders have been demanding uninterrupted power supply so that the factory owners do not suffer losses they have been bearing from last two years due to power curtailments.
Zubair Ahmad, a factory owner told Kashmir Reader that Phase III had been housing 150 units including three cement factories. He said that the Phase is overloaded as many other factories have been set up on it.
“SIDCO had sanctioned about 30 lakh rupees for developing power infrastructure in the industrial area but only 15 lakh have been spent in seven months,” he said alleging sub-standard material was used when it was established which needs to be upgraded.
He said that Phase III unit holders are mostly young entrepreneurs who have availed loans and have to pay heavy sums as interest on the loans. Besides, they have to pay labour charges to labourers for the time they do not work for.
“Electricity is the backbone for factories in the industrial estate but, unfortunately, this backbone of industries is weak here in our units,” he lamented.
He said that one sets a unit in an industrial area only with the hope it provides 24 hour power supply to the factories. The main issue that the unit holders face is uncertainty in power supply.
