Infiltration bid foiled, one killed

‘Pak shelling across Uri’

Srinagar: An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter at Sonapand area of Machil sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday morning.
Official sources said that army’s 21 Rajputana rifles noticed some suspicious movement along the line of control (LoC) near Sonapand area. The army, sources said, challenged the militants, who responded with gunfire. An encounter ensued in which army claimed that they killed a militant, adding that the operation was still on.
Srinagar based spokesperson of the Indian Army, Lt Col Rajash Kalia, confirmed the killing of a militant.
Meanwhile, sources said that Indo Pak forces fired heavy mortar-shells on each other positions along the line of control in Kamalkote sector of Uri. However, no loss of life or injury was reported. The residents of the area said that cross border firing continues in Uri Sector for the past two weeks due to which panic has gripped the region.
