SRINAGAR: In a keenly fought practice match Arafat Sports football Club scripted a 4-3 win in the tie-breaker over Islamia College of Science and Commerce’s football team at ICSC ground on Saturday.
The practice match was organised by ICSC Physical Education department in collaboration with Shaheen Sports Syndicate Khawja Bazar Nowhatta .
Both Arafat Sports and ICSC gave exhibition of aggressive game coupled with solid defence. The stipulated 90 minutes had nothing to choose between the two sides with a score-line of 1-1, and it needed a tie-breaker to decide the winner.
Out of five penalties Arafat Sports netted four and ICSC could score only thrice.
For the majority of 90 minutes of play, both teams had pressed attacking button to make continuous advances on each others’ goal post.
Arafat Sports had first success with their striker Jamsheed thumping the ball into the goal post to have their side in front in the 33rd minute.
But joy could last only for 34 minutes with Waris helping his host ICSC to make a comeback with an equalizer.
The teams went into the break with a stalemate. Second half didn’t see teams slacken their aggressive instincts, but didn’t have goals to show the quality of the game. Both teams showed strong defence to thwart any chances of status quo being disturbed.
And, it stayed that way when the final whistle blew. A tense tie-breaker needed a strong nerves and awareness to the situation.
Earlier both teams were introduced to the chief guest ex chairman, J&K Bank Sports board and Tafazul Hussain and principal of the college Prof Muzaffar Ahmed Khan.
Hussain who was the chief guest on the occasion congratulated players of both the teams for displaying wonderful skill during the course of the match and impressed upon them to continue to play the sport in an organised manner to achieve higher levels in the field.
