SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, has demanded immediate release of pro-freedom leaders and activists saying hundreds of innocent youth have been detained under “frivolous” cases last year with PSAs slapped against most of them.
In a statement, Geelani slammed authorities for their “haughtiness and persistent denial” to release political activists and said the detention period of those arrested during 2016 people’s uprising is prolonged on one pretext or the other.
In an appeal to ICRC, Amnesty International, and international organisations for human rights, the Hurriyat (G) chairman urged them to take cognisance of the detentions and use their influence in securing the release of all detainees.
Geelani said more than five hundred pro-freedom leaders and activists have been arrested last year and “despite their deteriorating health, they are not being released”.
He said PDP-led administration is following all dictates from Delhi “without applying their senses”.
He ridiculed PDP for its “rhetoric” about ‘Goli Nahi Boli’ and said “it proved mere fraud and hoax”.
