HANDWARA: Reacting to the recommendations made by State Human Rights Commission, asking government to pay Rs ten lakh as compensation to Farooq Dar, who was used as human shield by Major Gogoi in Budgam, MLA Langate Abdul Rasheed Sheikh has said that the recommendation made by SHRC was proof that Farooq Dar was not a stone pelter and that Major Gogoi had not acted in accordance with the law.
“It is time for defense minister, army chief and others to tender unconditional apology over the issue as SHRC would definitely have checked all the angles related to the shameful incident,” Rasheed said in a statement issued Monday while remarking that SHRC was not an NGO or a Pakistan funded organization but a government body.
He said it was shameful that Indian media and “communally biased” intellectuals and politicians were still trying to defend Major Gogoi.
Remarking that SHRC should have recommended strong action against Major Gogoi, Rasheed added that the judgment itself “makes the government duty bound to initiate further action against the major.”
“Those who still defend Major Gogoi should feel ashamed of themselves and Mebooba Mufti must compensate Mr. Farooq Dar by immediately implementing the Judgment,” the statement said.
