Srinagar: Three army soldiers including an officer were injured when militants ambushed its patrol party in Hajin town of Bandipora district before dawn on Saturday.
A senior police officer told Kashmir Reader that militants ambushed the patrol party of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) near Public Health Centre Hajin at 3:15 AM. The official said militants had blocked Hajin-Sumbal road prompting the soldiers to come out of vehicle. As soon as they descended from the vehicle, militants opened fire on the troopers. The firing continued for nearly five minutes, a local said.
The official said that the soon after the firing, the injured soldiers were shifted to army’s 192 base hospital at Badamibagh cantonment in Srinagar. The soldiers have suffered minor injuries and were out of danger, he said.
Soon after the attack, police and army rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. However, the militants had escaped by then.
Meanwhile, the wounded soldiers were identified as Captain Praveen Kumar, sepoy Ramesh Rawat and sepoy Brijesh Kumar.
Army’s defence spokesperson in Srinagar, Lt Colonel Rajesh Kalia, did not respond to repeated calls.
