ANANTNAG: Banners featuring Burhan Wani appeared in several areas of south Kashmir with the name of Hizbul Mujahideen Central Committee Srinagar under them. Burhan’s image appeared in the middle of the banners along with Syed Salahudin and Syed Ali Geelani.
The said committee came into existence after Hizbul Mujahideen was founded in the early 1990s. It was dissolved in 2000 when its operational chief Majid Dar signed a ceasefire agreement with the Indian government.
The committee was earlier headed by Shamsul Haq, Aamir Khan and Majid Dar. After a long gap, its posters appeared on Saturday at the martyrs’ graveyard in Reshi Bazar Anantnag, Laizbal KP Road Anantnag, Khanabal areas of Anantnag town, and also at Bijbehara, Malpora national highway, Dochinpora area of Anantnag, Khudwani and other areas of Kulgam, and in Shopian.
