SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday extended “full support” to the J&K Coordination Committee JKCC — a coalition of trade bodies and civil society experts.
In a statement, Mirwaz said he has full faith in the sense of judgement of JKCC and supports their protest programmes in the wake of government’s decision to implement GST in the state.
Mirwaiz said people of Kashmir will tooth and nail oppose all moves aimed at eroding the special status of J&K and in turn affecting the disputed nature of Kashmir.
“Unless the grave apprehensions and serious concerns raised by the JKCC regarding the manner and motive of the law being implemented here is satisfied, any attempt to implement the law will be met with stiff resistance by the leadership and people,” he said.
The Hurriyat chairman also condemned the “highhandedness” of authorities against the protesting traders and members of JKCC by arresting them and foiling their peaceful protest.
“It is deplorable that every move to raise our voice on any matter is met with force and repression,” Mirwaiz said.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing on protestors at Bahmanoo, Pulwama in which many people were injured and property damaged.
Mirwaiz said if government of India shuns its “obduracy and repression” and takes steps to resolve Kashmir dispute, people would not be forced to hit the streets. He said loss of lives and property could be avoided and peace could return to the subcontinent particularly to Kashmir
