Srinagar: Taking a dig at the opposition National Conference (NC), Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu said on Wednesday that it was former NC leader Rahim Rather who had championed the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“Abdul Rahim Rather has been invited for the GST launch. He has been invited for his immense contributions for the implementation of GST in the state during his tenure as finance minister. In the minutes of the meetings, (it can be seen) he has not raised any voice against the GST. Nothing. He has only counted its benefits. That is why he has been invited for the launch,” Drabu said at an interaction with the media here..
Earlier, Rather in a press briefing had said the NC will oppose the Good and Services Tax (GST) “tooth and nail” in its present form.
“It is akin to playing with fire if GST is implemented in the current form. We will fight such a move tooth and nail,” Rather had said.
