SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, has condemned the detention of its amalgam leaders and termed it the “worst kind of state terrorism”.
In a statement, Geelani condemned the arrest of Altaf Ahmad Shah, Hurriyat spokesperson Ayaz Akbar, and Meraj u Din Kalwal saying authorities have virtually transformed state into a ‘police garrison’.
Criticising the administration for its “vengeful policy” and “aggressive approach” against (resistance) leadership, Geelani said, “This clearly illustrates how government is muzzling the voice of the freedom-loving people of Kashmir. Such tactics will not weaken the resolve of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He said police on Tuesday night raided the residences of aforesaid leaders and lodged them in police station Kothibagh and later shifted to Rajbagh.
Terming these “arbitrary” arrests as “unjustified”, the Hurriyat (G) chairman said it is futile move of authorities. “State administration is very desperate to strangulate (the) genuine voices,” he said.
He said the fresh arrest spree is “illogical and unjustified” and will prove counterproductive.
