Srinagar: The Police officer DySP Mohammad Ayoub Pandith who was beaten to death after he opened fire on civilians injuring three in Nowhatta last night was buried at his native place in Nowpora, Srinagar Friday.
A large number of people including police officers friends and relatives attended his Nimaz-e-Jinaza.
“Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmad Khan, DIG G.H Bhat, SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail, SSP Security Maqsood-ul-Zaman and other senior officers and thousands of civilians were present during the Nimaz-e-Jinazah of the Martyr,” a police statement said.
Pandith according to police statement was born in Nowpora in April 1960. After pursuing M.Com and LLB, he joined the police department in 1990 as Sub Inspector. After completing his basic training in SKICC Udhampur in 1992 said officer was posted in district Pulwama. Thereafter he served as SHO of different Police Stations. He was promoted as DySP in 2013. During his career he has served different wings of District Police, Railways, Vigilance and Security in different capacities. He had received many appreciations for his work and conduct, police said.
Pandith is survived by wife, unmarried son and daughter.
