Sopore: Daily wagers working with the public health engineering, civil division in Sopore on Monday locked the office premises and staged a demonstration in the premises in support of their demands.
The daily wagers’ association comprised 310 members who are working for the past decades but their services have not been regularized.
“Every successive government made promises to make our services permanent but they never fulfilled them. Our families are dependent on our jobs, which are insecure. We have no option but to stage protests,” Sajad Ahmad Parray, chairman of Sopore division PHE daily wagers association told Kashmir Reader.
“Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu assured in the legislative assembly that the government will address their grievance but till this date nothing has been done,” Parray said.
He said the daily rated employees appointed before 1994 have been regularized. We have given our blood and sweat to the department. Why our jobs can’t be made permanent,” he said.
We are protesting for a week but when there was no response from the authorities, we locked down the office complex. “If the government is not addressing this grave problem we will come on roads and stop water supply schemes, let the people suffer,” he said.
