Association demands regularisation policy
SRINAGAR: Employees in all PHE divisions of Kashmir will go on strike on 19th June against government’s failure to frame a regularization policy.
In a press conference, president of Kashmir Public Health Engineering (PHE) Joint Employees Association, Sajad Ahmad Parray, said that the daily wagers and casual labourers, working in a department since 1994, were awaiting a regularization policy by the government.
Parray blamed the lack of a policy for the death of an employee two days ago. “One of our employees, Azad Ahmad Matoo, died due to cardiac attack,” Parray said.
“The ruling coalition government is playing with the sentiments of daily wagers.” Parray said. “(They say) that they will regularize us after they regularize daily wagers who were recruited in year 2007 during the PDP rule instead of the daily wagers and casual labors who were recruited in early ‘90s.”
More than 10000 persons are working in PHE Department as casual labourers for a mere 4,500 rupees per month. In most of these cases, the daily wagers have been found to be the only bread-earners of their families.
“I can’t give my children what they deserve; I only receive 4500 a month. I pay Rs 2000 as school fee for my three children. How I manage my livelihood, only Allah know. There are thousands like me who suffer because of a lack of government policy,” said one of the daily wagers, Mushataq Ahamad.
“My family pressurizes me to quit this job, but for my three children i continue. I continue with this job with the hope that I get regularized and I receive a good salary. It has now been 23 years serving in this department.”
