Sopore: The frequent transfer of sub-divisional magistrate in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district has impacted the administrative efficacy and landed the common people in umpteen issues and problems.
The sub-district magistrate (SDM) issues a bevy of certificates including revenue alienations, Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC’s), Backward Area Certificates (RBA’s), ST certificates locally. Earlier, the people had to go to district magistrate’s office in Baramulla for these certificates. However, the SDM chair has remained most of the times vacant as the officers do not stick to the place for prolonged periods. They seek transfers before serving the area for a full term.
“The people are facing immense hardships due to the frequent transfers of SDMs,” a group of local residents told Kashmir Reader.
On the face of it, the administration elevated the status of the sub-district by appointing Additional Deputy Commissioner in Sopore. However, this has not changed the situation on the ground level.
“We still pay visits to the ADC’s office. The officer says that he has not been given drawing and disbursing powers,” Ajaz Ahmad, resident of Dangiwacha Sopore said.
Ahmad said he has been approaching the SDM office for the past three months for PRC of his kids. “First there was excuse of the non-availability of SDM, now the ADC says he does not have powers,” he said.
Hundreds of files have accumulated at the ADC’s office as the officer in-charge has not been given requisite powers by the general administration department.
The newly appointed ADC Khursheed Ahmed Shah was not available for comment.
