Sumbal: Rehber-e-Taleem teachers of Sumbal zone in Bandipora district took out a protest march on Wednesday against the government for failing to release their monthly salaries.
Carrying banners and raising anti-government slogans, the teachers assembled at Irrigation Colony Sumbal.
The protesting teachers said the government has not released their salaries for past five months.
“While we are facing immense hardships for want of salary, the government doesn’t even bother to look into this issue,” they said.
RET zonal President Sumbal Mohammad Ayoub Kaloo in his address to the teachers said that for last several months their families are facing lot of hardships.
“We are not even able to buy medicine or books for our children,” he said. “If our salaries are not released immediately, we will not be able to even feed our families.”
He said that It was unfortunate that despite serving the department with dedication, the government has with held salaries and is paying no heed to their genuine demands.
The teachers said that they had approached the higher ups a number of times.
They appealed to the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and Minister concerned to look into the matter and release the pending salaries before Eid .
The said the strike would continue till 19th of June and if the government fails to release the salaries till then, they will chalk out further protest programme.
