Baramulla: Police in Handwara said on Monday they had busted a militants’ module with the arrest of two local militants, identified as Mehrajudin, son of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and Obaid Shafi Malla, son of Mohammad Shafi Malla, both residents of Awantipora. Police said that a joint naka with soldiers of the army’s 21RR was laid at Chogal, Handwara, where the two militants were apprehended. Police said the duo was asked to stop but they started running away. The police and army troops caught hold of them. When they were searched, some arms were recovered from them, police said.
During the investigation, police said, the duo revealed that they had come to Handwara to receive arms and ammunition for their militant outfit.
Nitish Kumar, recently promoted as Inspector General of Police North Kashmir from DIG rank, confirmed the arrest of two local trained militants and said that the duo had come to Handwara to receive arms and ammunitions and their motive was to recruit more youths in militant ranks. Kumar said this while talking to reporters after the inauguration of a police public library at Kiryapa Park, Baramulla.
