SRINAGAR: Strongly criticising National Investigating Agency (NIA) for summoning Altaf Ahmad Shah (secretary, public relations) to Delhi for “interrogation”, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday termed it as “sheer vengeance”.
“Altaf Ahmad and other party activists are unnecessarily being harassed by NIA sleuths,” Geelani said in a statement issued here. “It is just a tool to dent leadership so that they surrender and stop voicing the sentiments of their nation.”
Geelani said Altaf Shah is active in politics since past 35 years and his all activities are transparent and open. He said the policy makers in Delhi are “intimidating” political workers on one pretext or the other.
“It is illogical and unjustified. NIA is being used as a war weapon against political workers. Since 2002, fabricated cases are being filed against me, (my) colleagues, and my close relatives; however all these senseless efforts proved useless and futile,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman said all these “state sponsored tactics and coercive measures” won’t deter us from pursuing our mission.
He asked Indian authorities to “shun this uncivilised and egoistic approach” saying that “implicating political workers in fabricated cases won’t help you nor will we surrender”.
Geelani suggested Indian authorities to adopt a realistic approach and accept hard realities about Kashmir issue.
