Ganderbal: Scores of casual labourers of Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) staged a protest Saturday in front of the SDA office in Sonamarg demanding release of their pending salaries.
“We are delivering our duties without salaries for past six months. Our demand is regularisation of services and the release of our salaries,” president SDA casual labourers union Mushtaq Ahmad lone said.
The labourers said that in the absence of salary they were unable to bear the expenses for daily needs.
“We cannot feed and support our families, even in Ramadhan” a dailywager said.
“There are nearly 70 casual labourers working in the department day and night, during yatra times made every arrangement for their amenities and luxuries,” Tariq Ahmad, another protester said.
The labourers sought release of wages before Eid and threatened to launch indefinite agitation if the authorities failed to redress their grievances.
They said that despite tough weather conditions and they were regularly attending the office at Sonamarag and performing their duties, and appealed Chief Minister to take their matter seriously and redress their problems.
