Baramulla: A mesh of transmission lines woven through damaged electric poles in agricultural land at Chandil Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is putting the lives of farmers and locals at risk. The locals reported the threat to the power development department officials but they do not take initiatives to correct it. A short circuit on the spot has already given some locals a close shave with life.
All the high tension lines on damaged poles put the local people at high risk. The threat looms large when the farmers are working in their paddy fields.
“The department has installed the transmission line either on damaged poles or over the trees. This is posing a big threat to people’s lives,” Gulam Hassan, a local at Chandil village said.
“We approached the concerned department quite a number of times but they do not pay any heed towards it”, Adil Ahmad Dar, another local resident said.
“The authorities are not concerned about the safety of the people. They are quite reluctant to do anything on ground,” he added.
An official of the power development department posted in the area wishing not to be named confirmed that there were so many unsafe poles in the area. “We have already shortage of poles, wire and transformers,” he said.
