Shopian: Shopian stayed shut for the second day on Thursday to mourn the killing of 18-year-old BSc student Adil Farooq of Ganowpora village. Adil was killed on Wednesday evening when government forces opened fire on youth throwing stones at them during a search and cordon operation near Ganowpora village.
All business establishments, shops, schools and colleges remained shut and traffic was thin on the roads in the entire Shopian district on Thursday. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Muhammad Ahsan, said that strict restrictions will be imposed in the main town and in Shirmal, Arhama, Sofanaman areas of the district on Friday.
“All schools and colleges will be closed and there would be curfew-like restrictions in the major parts of the district,” he told Kashmir Reader.
Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry under Section 176 CrPC was ordered into the killing of Adil Farooq by the Shopian district magistrate. “Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shopian has been appointed as inquiry officer to ascertain the circumstances which led to the death of Adil Farooq on Wednesday evening,” the DM’s order said.
