Srinagar: Intense clashes between protesters and government forces broke out in Anantnag town of south Kashmir after Friday prayers, sources said.
As soon as the congregational prayers were over groups of youth took to roads around Lal Chowk and started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. They also raised slogans in favour of militants and against the army.
As the protesters approached near Lal Chowk forces deployed in heavy numbers fired tear smoke shells to disperse them, witnesses said adding the protesters pelted stones on forces triggering massive clashes.
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
Meanwhile, reports of stone pelting on forces have also reached from Meemender area of Shopian.
