SOPORE: Massive power outage & shortage of water supply from the last few weeks in the Warpora village of Sopore town has left its inhabitants fuming.
Residents of Warpora village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday alleged that they have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water and a massive power outage from the last few weeks.
Scores of men, women, and children staged a protest demonstration at Warpora against the Public Health Department (PHE) and the Power Development Department (PDD) for their failure to ensure supply of water and power to the area. They shouted slo-gans against the PHE & PDD.
“We have been protesting for last three days,” Mohd Ramzan, and a resident of Warpora told Kashmir Reader. “If the administration does not fulfil our genuine demands, we will stage bigger protests against the administration,” Haja Begum, a woman from Warpora said.
When contacted, the Executive Engineer PHE Sopore told Kashmir Reader that the water supply was severed due to the restoration process in Zaingeer belt. “The department is working on the water pipes. The grievance of the residents will be addressed soon”.
However, assistant executive engineer of PDD could not be contacted.
