Rejects bilateral talks unless India accepts ‘disputed territory’
Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday rejected bilateral talks with India. He said that no talks were possible unless “India accepts Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory”.
Geelani warned that Kashmir was passing through a crucial period where “our lives, dignity, properties, faith, and uniqueness” were at stake. “Do or die position has evolved. These forces won’t allow us to live free unless we follow their faith and change our outlook as per their dictates”, he said while refereeing to “fanatical forces and their aggressive and rigid attitude”.
“We’ll never beg for talks,” Geelani said, adding that authorities in Delhi were “irrational, following fanatical dogma, lack political understanding”.
Geelani was reacting to a statement of BJP minister Venkaiah Naidu and other BJP leaders. Terming these statements ridiculous, Geelani said Hurriyat leadership had never asked to hold talks, which meant that “their denial carried no sense” and was “just a mockery”. “We will never talk with those pursuing their fanatical ideology and we will never surrender,” said Geelani.
The Hurriyat chairman said that Kashmir, where people were pursuing their right to self-determination, had remained unresolved for seven decades. Ridiculing authorities in New Delhi for their “unrealistic and arrogant attitude”, Geelani said that its “puppet administration” has waged a war against the people of state.
“They are looking at the issue through the prism of their fanatical ideology and as a conflict between Hindu and Muslim communities,” added Geelani.
Strongly condemning these “fanatical authorities”, Geelani said, “they derive joy while butchering Muslim communities. Under a well thought out plan, and under the garb of ‘’law and order”, (authorities) feel free to carry out genocide in disputed state of Jammu & Kashmir”. He said that the sole aim of authorities in New Delhi was to turn India into “Hindu Rashtra”.
Geelani expressed hope that “our nation will maintain supreme self-esteem, exhibit constancy and uprightness and will never budge in front of such dogmatic elements”.
