SRINAGAR: A “socially-conscious corporate”, Vodafone India has been supporting the education of underprivileged children in Kashmir through its ‘Giving’ gesture on ‘Ramzan’ for the last four years. The initiative is inspired by the holy month of Ramzan which motivates one and all to embrace the spirit of giving and make an effort to help the needy. This was stated in an official handout issued here.
According to the handout, this year, the ‘Giving’ initiative by Vodafone India to commemorate Ramzan enters its fifth year and is all set to continue supporting the education of underprivileged children in Kashmir.
“Starting from May 28, 2017, Vodafone will donate 1 paisa for every outgoing call or recharge and Rs. 5 for every new activation in Kashmir Province during the entire month of Ramzan towards the education of underprivileged children,” read the document.
Vodafone will donate the funds raised by this initiative to Sakhawat Centre run by Iqbal Memorial Trust, an NGO in Srinagar that will use it for the education of underprivileged children in Kashmir Province.
“This is the fifth consecutive year of Vodafone’s tie-up with the Sakhawat Centre for this noble cause,” the document further read. In the last four years of this association, “Vodafone has donated INR 23.7 lakhs for this cause”.
Extending Ramzan greetings to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Rajat Avasthi, Business Head, Punjab, HP and J&K, Vodafone India said, “Education is the best gift which we can give to our children. It gives us immense joy and satisfaction that we are honouring the giving spirit of Ramzan in the best possible manner by donating towards education of underprivileged children in Kashmir to empower them to grow in the right direction.”
