Youth attempting to snatch rifle arrested

ANANTNAG: A youth was arrested during a rifle snatching bid outside the branch of Jammu and Kashmir bank in Anantnag on Friday. During the incident a CRPF trooper was also injured after being hit by a bullet.
Police sources and witnesses said that two youth at around two 1:30 pm entered TP branch of JK bank in Lal chowk area of the town and attempted to snatch a rifle from the CRPF trooper on duty. “One of the youth caught the CRPF man by his arms while as his another associate carrying pistol opened fire at him causing injuries in his hand.   As he was trying to snatch his rifle other CRPF troopers came rushing and caught hold of one of them while as another managed to flee,” witnesses and sources told Kashmir Reader.
The arrested youth was identified as Muneeb Ahmed Malla of Bihibagh Shopian while as the injured CRPF man was identified as Koshal Kumar of 42 battalion.
A police officer posted in the district said that the two youth tried to snatch a rifle from the CRPF man but their attempt was foiled.
“Both the youth are having militant links though they were not listed militants,” the police officer said.
He said that they have identified another youth who managed to flee but refused to reveal his name. “I can not reveal his name as it may hamper the investigation into the matter,” the police officer said.
However, hours after the incident a video showing the CRPF men interrogating the arrested youth was aired by many Indian news channels. In the video the youth identified his associate who fled from the spot as Raja from Hawoora.
“I am a vendor and was forced by him (Raja) to accompany him for rifle snatching. He threatened to kill me if I did not accompany him,” the youth is seen revealing to CRPF men in the video.
