Srinagar: The official inquiry called into the assault by government forces on students inside the Pulwama Degree College has exonerated the principal and held the police and paramilitary forces responsible, a top official in the education department told Reader.
According to the official report submitted by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to the office of the education minister on Wednesday, the police and paramilitary forces had “trespassed” their jurisdiction by entering the college, the official said.
The Station House Officer and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) have been transferred from Pulwama following the findings of the report. “We will punish the erring members of the security establishment and those who have trespassed their jurisdiction by barging inside educational institutions. The inquiry report has asked the police department to initiate action against them,” the official said.
The official said that the inquiry report was completed in a week’s time and has exonerated the principal of Pulwama degree college, though he was removed from the post following massive student protests across Kashmir.
The report has found that the principal had no role in the entire episode. He will be soon reinstated. “The education department will be issuing the order to that effect soon,” the official said.
In the last cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, serious concern had been expressed over the rising participation of students in pro-freedom protests. The cabinet meeting had called for an inquiry into the Pulwama degree college incident.
