Srinagar: Clashes between government forces and protesters erupted in Sugan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district Thursday after forces cordoned the area and started searches.
Local sources said that personnel of army, CRPF and SOG cordoned Sugan village and started house to house searches.
Soon after the search operation started locals took to streets and raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans pelted stones on government forces, they said.
Witnesses told Kashmir Reader over phone that forces resorted to tear smoke shelling to disperse the protesters.
Police sources however said that situation in the village was “under control”.
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
