Srinagar: The government has decided to keep colleges and higher secondary schools closed on Saturday as a ‘precautionary measure’.
Although Kashmir University Students Union had appealed students to resume classes, the divisional administration deferred the resumption of class work to next week.
A statement issued by the government said that teaching work in all the colleges of the Kashmir Division “shall remain suspended on April 22, 2017 as a precautionary measure”.
An official of the education department clarified that higher secondary schools will also remain closed on saturday.
Tensions between students and authorities began at Pulwama degree college last week when police entered the campus leading to clashes with students in which more than 60 students were injured.
On Monday, this week, students across Kashmir staged protests against the assault on Pulwama college leading to clashes with forcing at many places. Class work in colleges has not resumed since, while higher secondary schools were briefly open.
Two girl students Iqra Jan and Khushboo were injured in Safakadal area of the Srinagar, by stones and marbles allegedly flung by the government forces.
