Srinagar: The principal of Government Degree College Pulwama was removed from his position on Wednesday, sources told Kashmir Reader.
According to the official sources, the principal has been attached to the department as per fresh orders and another official of the college has been asked to take over the principal’s post.
The removal of Abdul Hamid Sheikh comes four days after more than 50 students were injured by government forces on Saturday outside and inside the college premises.
State-wide student protests have since been held in solidarity with the Pulwama college students and against the action of the police. Many more students have been injured in clashes with government troops across the state since then.
A senior police official told Kashmir Reader that the police have lodged an FIR over the Pulwama college incident.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan said he will be inquiring into the incident.
In a video clip that was widely circulated after it surfaced on social media networks, the college principal is seen shouting at cops asking them to kill him first before entering the college premises.
