Srinagar: A court in Srinagar on Wednesday asked the public prosecutor to produce the witness in a 2008 murder case on 3rd May, failing which the court would close the evidence in the case.
Hearing the arguments of defense counsel in the murder case of Basharat Ahmed Khan alias Raj Kala of Firdousabad Batmaloo, the 3rd additional sessions court, Srinagar issued ‘last warning’ to the public prosecutor to produce the remaining witness. As many as 28 witnesses have been examined by court so far, out of 31 sought by the public prosecutor.
Basharat’s body was found in a drain at Batmaloo on 24 May 2007. Police investigations concluded that he was killed by two of his companions on a tiff off over alcohol.
According to the investigations, Basharat along with one Imran Khan alias Gorkha had gone to meet a third friend, Mohammad Sadiq Parray, at his home at around 11pm on 27 April 2008 to consume alcohol. However, Parray declined to give alcohol to Basharat Ahmed. On this, Basharat got infuriated and slapped Parray, leading to a scuffle, which Imran tried to interrupt.
As Basharat tried to assault Imran, he grabbed an iron rod and smashed Basharat’s head. Later Sadiq and Imran took Basharat’s body and dumped it into a drain. While Sadiq has already died during trial, Imran is lodged at Central Jail Srinagar since 2008.
