Youth’s killing, college assault evoke widespread condemnation

Inhumanity is order of day in Kashmir, says Mirwaiz
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Sunday said that inhumanity at the hands of government forces has become the order of the day in Kashmir as every day people especially the youth are deliberately targeted and killed. In a statement Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who is held under house arrest for more than a month said “cold-blooded” murder of Sajad Hussain Sheikh of Baramulla at Batamaloo is a heinous crime.
Mirwaiz said that youth who are spared death are subjected to torture, harassment and humiliation as various shocking videos circulating the internet show. Tying people to jeeps parading them through villages and using them as human shields, coercing  young college students and beating them till they bleed while forcing them to chant  certain slogans shows open endorsement rather pursuance of the policy of revenge and punishment by the Indian state against a people demanding their basic political right.
Mirwaiz said that the state needs to understand that repeated atrocities, repression and highhandedness have outlived effectiveness as an instrument of taming Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz also condemned the killing of Bashir Ahmed Dar who belonged to a pro-India political party in Pulwama. He said every killing is sad and people should be left to their conscience to decide for their actions and not harmed on the basis of their political affiliations.
