Baramulla: More than 20 students were injured and several others arrested on Monday when students of different government colleges staged protests against the “police highhandedness” in Pulwama College last weekend.
Students of Government Degree College Pattan, Tangmarg, Sopore, Handwara, government boys degree Baramulla, Women’s college Baramulla boycotted their classes and staged protests against the government forces who beat and injured 54 students last week. The students were chanting anti India, pro Azadi, pro-militant slogans and were demanding immediate action against the culprits involved in beating of students.
The students of government degree college Baramulla hit the streets and tried to block the Srinagar Muzaferabad highway but police and other government forces fired dozens of tear smoke shells and dispersed them.
Police also entered the college premises and broke several pains and arrest over a dozen students, students alleged. They said over a dozen students were injured who were taken to local hospitals. One among them was shifted to District hospital Baramulla. Medical Superintendent District Hospital Baramulla Dr Masood said that one student was admitted in the hospital.
In government degree for women’s main town Baramulla the girl students staged protests however college authorities did not allow them to venture out. The girls broke the main gate and reached on the Srinagar Muzaferabad highway.
Reports from Handwara said that over 300 students of Government Degree College Handwara staged protests and clashed with government forces. Forces fired tear smoke shells while as students hurled rocks on forces.
The reports from Tangmarg and Pattan area said that large number of students including girls chanting anti-India and pro-Azadi slogans staged protests.
