Srinagar: Counting of votes for Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary by-election seat began Saturday morning, officials said. The counting is underway at SKICC, they said.
The crucial election was marred by series of incidents of protests and clashes.
While at least eight people were killed in the clashes, scores sustained injuries.
The by-election was unprecedented as it recorded the lowest voter turnout at 7 per cent which is the lowest in over three decades time.
There are nine candidates in the fray, but the main contest is between former Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Nazir Ahmad Khan.
Voting in the by-election was held on April 9.
