PAMPORE: Residents of Pampore town in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded immediate replacement of a 6.3 MVA transformer that was reportedly damaged by lightening on April 6.
The residents said that the town was reeling under darkness with a two hour power supply followed by four hour breaks for the last ten days.
“It is very difficult to explain how we are living our lives in darkness,” said Javaid Ahmad, a resident of Namblabal habitation of the town, adding that the transform had suffered damages several times but it has not been changed yet.
Many residents alleged that the transformer had got damaged many times.
“It is not the first time that we have been reeling under darkness but during last three years the transformer had been damaged several times,” said Sameer Ahmad, a resident of Drangbal Pampore, adding that they did not understand why the transformer had not been replaced by a new one.
Superintendent Engineer Pulwama, Abdul Rashid told Kashmir Reader that the transformer had been damaged due to lightening and promised to replace it soon.
He said that the locality was getting power supply on rotation basis and added that the transformer was worn out and needed to be replaced.
