Chasing a cricket ball, two kids drown in Tangmarg’s Tilkund rivulet

Baramulla: A pall of gloom descended on Baba Reshi locality of north Kashmir when two schoolchildren below ten years of age drowned in Tilkund rivulet while chasing a ball flowing on the water surface.
The kids were playing cricket on the banks of the nullah on Friday afternoon and misjudged the flow of water while chasing the ball that dropped in the flowing rivulet.
The two lads have been identified as Rouf Ahmed Sheikh, 9, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh and Firdous Ahmed Reshi, 10, son of Muhammad Yousuf Reshi.
The bodies of the boys were retrieved from the rivulet around a kilometer away from the spot they plunged into the water.
A large number of locals had gathered for the rescue operation. The boys after being retrieved were immediately taken hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tangmarg confirmed the accident. He said police were verifying the circumstances, which led to the tragedy.
