SRINAGAR: Employees State Insurance Corporation(ESIC) scheme have been extended to all the districts of J&K.
This was disclosed by Regional Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation, Jammu & Kashmir region, MK Arya, while addressing to media at his office on Wednesday.
Arya said that under the Scheme which is a premier social security scheme of Government of India, cash benefit to insured persons and their dependent is provided through three branch offices at Jammu, Kathua, Srinagar and three Pay Offices at Udhampur, Samba and Katra.
“Medical benefit is provided through a 50 bedded ESI Model Hospital at Bari Brahmana, Samba district and nine ESI Dispensaries, four in Srinagar, two in Kathua and three in Jammu,” Arya added.
According to the Arya “In rest of the places medical benefit is provided through Insured Medical Practitioners. Further tie up arrangement for secondary care and super specialty treatment has been made with a number of nursing home/ hospitals in the Region.”
In order to provide better services to the insured persons it is proposed to open District Offices in some of the districts of state which includes Udhampur, Srinagar, Poonch, Leh at initial stage.
Under this programme in the first stage a district office is being opened at Udhampur.
In addition to it as a future expansion and reach out plan of ESIC, Branch Offices are also proposed to be opened in the new areas having sizeable population of insured persons which includes Katra, Rajouri, Doda, in Jammu division, Anantnag, Pulwama, Bandipora, Baramulla in Kashmir division and Leh and Kargil in Ladakh division.
Arya further told that the initiative of ESI Corporation the State Government of J&K has approved formation of a State Autonomous Body (Society) u/s 58(5) of ESI Act under the J&K Societies Registration Act for better administration of ESI Scheme in the State.
Arya has requested all those employers who are now covered in various districts municipal that they should start registering themselves online on ESIC Regional Office website with the help of ESIC officials available on helpline numbers.
The scheme was Started way back in 1989 with 7000 workers in three districts of the state(Jammu, Kathua and Srinagar).
