SRINAGAR: A court in Srinagar Wednesday rejected the request of defense counsel to get the children of a man accused of murdering his wife arraigned as defense witness.
The five siblings have already deposed as prosecution witness against their father
Abdul Rehman Ganie, who is accused of killing his wife Sakina with an axe on March 2005 at their home in Soiteng.
In the court of 3rd Additional Session Judge, Defense counsel Nisar Ahmed Kuchay had filed an application to get the children arraigned as defense witness. Evidence has been closed in the case, and the court has directed defense counsel to produce defense witness forthwith.
Around 20 witnesses have been examined in the case including the five siblings.
Recalling the horrifying night, a daughter of Ganie said that she was sleeping she woke up hearing head a scream.
“I got up and went to see. It was my mother’s cry and when I went inside the room, my father holding an axe in his hand slapped axe on the head of my mother. I cried loudly till all the family members gathered in the room.
When we asked him why are you doing this? He said stay quite or I will also kill you. We were weeping but no one came to the rescue of our mother until she died. Everything was wrapped with blood of our mother. We were very young at that time couldn’t do anything to save our mother,” she said.
She said the siblings managed to escape from the window of the house and knocked the doors of neighbours and related whole incident to them.
An FIR no.20/2005 was lodged at police station Nowgam under section 302 RPC against the Ganie and he has been lodged at Central Jail Srinagar for the past 13 years.
